ADAMS COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA 

Adams County is a county in Pennsylvania with Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as the county seat.  The county was created on January 22, 1800, from part of York County, and was named for our second President, John Adams.  From July 1-3 of 1863, the area around Gettysburg was the site of the American Civil War.

The Adams County Historical Society plays a very integral part to identify, preserve, and tell stories and events that helped shape Adams County, Pennsylvania.  The Adams County Historical Society is sometimes referred to as the “County’s Attic” which stores the rich, local and cultural heritage.  To enhance the interpretation of local history, the Adam’s County Historical Society archives a large collection of county records, personal documents, business records, and photographs.  The Historical Society provides many aids to assist you with the type of research you may be interested in conducting.
