FRANKLIN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA

Franklin County, Pennsylvania was first part of Lancaster County, followed by York County and Cumberland County.  Franklin County evolved in 1784 soon after the end of the American Revolutionary War.  Franklin County was named after Benjamin Franklin.

Franklin County is home to three Pennsylvania state parks such as Caledonia State Park, Buchanan’s Birthplace State Park and Mont Alto State Park which is the oldest state park in Pennsylvania.

Franklin County, Pennsylvania includes numerous boroughs, townships, and cities.  The largest county seat and municipality in Franklin County is Chambersburg.

Franklin County played an important part in our nation’s history and the Underground Railroad was a key stop in the quest for freedom.  Franklin County offers a CTA Program, The Franklin County Tourism Ambassador program is a certification program that serves to increase tourism.  The CTA Program helps inspire front-line hospitality employees and volunteers to work together to turn every person’s encounter in Franklin County into a positive experience.
