YORK COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA

York County, Pennsylvania, was created on August 19, 1749, from part of Lancaster County and was supposedly named after the Duke of York or for the city and shire of York in England.

The local government and business community began referring to York in the 1960’s as the first capital of the United State of America.  The designation has been debated by historians ever since.

York County offers big-city amenities with a small-town charm.  If you are after a chic urban loft or a countryside retreat, York County is a great place to call home.  York County still embraces its agricultural roots, however, it has evolved into a manufacturing and business hub.  With all the bustling local economy, York has become one of the fastest growing counties in all of Pennsylvania.  York County offers great schools, a low cost of living, quality healthcare and a huge selection of entertainment venues.  As a resident of York County, you are only a short drive away from Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and New York City.
